Only 44% of Victorians “approve of the overall job performance of city council”.

Unsurprising news, but helpful to have a number on the dissatisfaction in town.

Great news for Victoria. Affordable Housing was named the number one concern of Victoria residents in this year’s Vital Signs Survey, glad to see government listening to the needs of the people and taking action.

Another amazing Great Canadian Beer Festival wrapped up this weekend, making it my 6th BeerFest in a row. Had a blast as always, hanging out with friends and trying fantastic beers from all across the country. This is always a big boon for the local economy and the craft beer industry! Already looking forward to next year!

Smudging Ceremony w/ Scia’new First Nation

Had the honour of being invited by the Scia’new First Nation to participate in a smudging ceremony today. It is their way of purifying and removing negative energy from people and environments.

I have to admit that, as a white man, I was fairly nervous about messing up the ritual but thankfully I didn’t have to go first so it all went smoothly as I just followed the Chief Chipps’ lead. Although I definitely did something amusing as Shirley, the Elder who performed the ceremony, had a big smile on her face during my turn with the smoke.

Today’s the Cook Street Village Community BBQ! I love living in such a fantastic neighbourhood. Great to see so many familiar faces out despite the less than ideal weather.

Threshold Housing Society – Board of Directors

Thrilled to announce that last night I was officially welcomed to the Board of Directors for Threshold Housing Society at their Annual General Meeting opened by Mayor Lisa Helps.

Homelessness has been a hot button issue in Victoria as of late, and I look forward to being able to do my part in helping reduce the number of homeless in our city. Nearly half of the current street population in Victoria first became homeless in their youth, so the work that Threshold does in providing housing and support is vital in preventing at-risk youth from ever getting to that point.

On top of that, getting to work with the always incredible and dedicated Jo-Ann Roberts will be an added benefit to my term as a Director at Threshold as well!

It has been an absolute pleasure to work on this great project alongside Chief Russ Chipps and the Scia’new people over the past year and a half. Achieving real change in real communities. Here’s a great article that Russ has written and published in the Vancouver Sun on our initiative.

Fantastic to see so many familiar faces at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the launch of the Westshore Express. A great initiative by John Wilson to bring more tourists and drive economic activity in the Westshore.
